It’s Time for Select V2!

Intel Select Solutions for NFVI v2 are out of the gates with Advantech swiftly moving to verified status on two key servers from our SKY-8000 range. The v2 specification now defines a controller node and a ‘plus’ and ‘base’ configuration for a cloud node. The cloud nodes showcase the best combination of Intel’s technologies and ingredients, such as Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT). These technologies are integrated on the server motherboard to deliver best-in-class NFVI performance with highest virtual network function density using the Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). The controller node is defined for hosting the control and signalling functions in an OpenStack environment, and is based on less compute intensive requirement with networking to communicate with other Cloud Nodes. announced the availability of two new servers powered by 2nd gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors as verified Intel® Select Solutions for NFVI v2. The server configurations will help communications service providers to meet network transformation challenges more efficiently. Ready to ship as pre-configured controller and cloud nodes and also available for benchmarking in Advantech’s Remote Evaluation Service labs, communications service providers can leverage SKY-8201L and SKY-8101D servers to accelerate testing and modelling of solutions that will define next-generation services.

The new servers are powered by 2nd gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors as verified Intel® Select Solutions for NFVI v2 and are geared to helping communications service providers to meet network transformation challenges more efficiently.
Both server configurations feature a workload-optimized stack tuned to take full advantage of an Intel® architecture (IA) and meet a performance threshold that delivers a premium customer experience. The hardware and software loads are specified to expose the value of NUMA-balanced PCIe adapter architecture for Network Function Virtualization. As solution ready platforms, they leverage hardened hardware, firmware and software to allow customers to integrate on top of a verified foundation.

SKY-8201L Compact 2U High Capacity Storage Server

♦ 24x 2.5” or 12x 3.5” HDD/SDD  ♦  Full length PCIe card compatibity ♦ Supports full Intel Xeon Scalable product line (including 205W)

The SKY-8201L carrier grade server is focused on helping CommSPs accelerate network transformation by reducing the time, effort, and costs required to integrate and evaluate hardware and software configurations for NFV-based service development and deployment. Next generation central offices, telecom cloud and edge compute will require a significant boost in performance, network throughput and agility to maximize the opportunities created by 5G at sustainable costs. The SKY-8201L, a verified Intel Select Solution for NFVI on 2nd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors will help close the gap and speed the transformation needed to support the next wave of applications where lower latency, additional bandwidth and increased storage capacities will be essential. The SKY-8201L is a dual socket server  designed for applications requiring higher capacity, front loading, hot-swappable storage with RAID support, the SKY-8201L accommodates up to twelve 3.5″ or twentyfour 2.5″ removable drive bays at the front of the system, eight/twenty of which support SATA/SAS connectivity and a further four optional 2.5″ NVMe drives, each connected to a PCIe Gen3 x4 Intel OCuLink bus.

SKY-8101D Compact 1U High Performance Server

♦ Balanced PCIe I/O for simple software architecture  ♦ 1RU Design with 400Gbps I/O

♦ Supports ¾ length PCIe card

The SKY-8101D accommodates two 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, and up to four 10.5” PCIe x16 Gen3 adapters, designed for applications requiring high TDP, high speed networking capacity or longer length add-on cards. The server can significantly scale the bandwidth up and provide better cost advantages for applications such as NFV infrastructure requiring up to 400Gbps throughput, high definition multi-stream video processing and AI workloads leveraging high density FPGA offload adapters. Redundant power supplies, the ability to withstand single fan failures, redundant firmware images with failsafe upgrades and hot swappable FRUs make the SKY-8101D the platform of choice for applications requiring zero downtime. Interoperability testing is performed with a wide selection of Advantech and third-party PCIe card vendors in order to accelerate integration and shorten time to deployment. The SKY-8101D is a verified Intel Select Solution for NFVI.

Advantech’s SKY-8201L and SKY-8101D servers target cloud infrastructure solutions in private industrial LTE networks and the transformation of traditional central offices into open and programmable points of presence ready to host the 5G converged smart edge. Best of breed software partners enable quick deployment of provider edge functions such as vBNG, vEPC, vCMTS, vSecGW or vRouters capable of serving large numbers of subscribers.

In a Press Release announcing the availability of the two new platforms, Ben Shen, Director NFVI Infrastructure Division, Advantech Networks & Communications Group commented:
“Advantech SKY-8000 servers verified as Intel Select Solutions for NFVI v2 make an ideal foundation for applications such as provider edge network gateways, security gateways and border routing, and have been designed for demanding Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) workloads. Powered by 2nd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the new platforms will allow Enterprise customers and Service Providers to leverage the benefits of higher packet processing throughput and increased virtual machine density across a common and increasingly scalable product line with more processor cores and higher base frequencies”.

An Advantech SKY-8101D verified Intel Select Solution for NFVI v2 will be showcased at the Intel booth during the Network Virtualization & SDN Europe Event in Berlin on May 21-23.
